According to reports that the British broadcaster is willing to issue a formal apology to Donald Trump as part of attempts to address a billion-dollar legal action submitted in a Florida court.

The dispute relates to the modification of a speech by Donald Trump in an edition of the programme Panorama, which allegedly gave the impression that he explicitly urged the Capitol attack on 6 January 2021.

The edited clip implied that Trump addressed his supporters, “Let's walk down to the Capitol and I’ll be there with you, and we fight. We fight like hell.” Yet, these statements were taken from different sections of his address that were spread over an hour.

Senior figures at the corporation are said to see no reason to issuing a more personal apology to the former president in its formal reply.

Following an previous apology from the BBC chair, which stated that the edit “gave the impression that President Trump had called directly for violent action.”
