Greetings for a busy evening of Football League as well as international football fixtures. The spotlight falls on key second-tier encounters and those crucial final pool games in this Afcon tournament.
Hello everyone. Welcome to what is arguably the penultimate football live blog of the year. We have an extensive Football League schedule, starting with Coventry v Ipswich at 18:00, and we’ll also be keeping a close watch on both night games from the first group at the Afcon: Morocco hosting Zambia as well as Mali facing Comoros.
Our primary attention will be on these games, all 19:45 start times except where noted.
The early game, between the teams who are first and third in the second tier, could be an exciting match. These are the starting elevens.
Coventry City (a 4-2-3-1 formation) Rushworth; the right-back, Woolfenden, the defender, the left-back; the midfielder, the captain; the winger, Rudoni, the forward; the striker.
Substitutes: Wilson, the midfielder, Simms, Kesler-Hayden, Bidwell, the defender, the midfielder, Perry, the player.
Ipswich Town (4-2-3-1) The shot-stopper; the defender, O’Shea, Kipre, Greaves; Matusiwa, Taylor; the attacker, Nunez, Jack Clarke; the centre-forward.
Subs: The goalkeeper, Young, Johnson, Humphreys, Cajuste, Burns, McAteer, the attacker, the striker.
Referee Backhouse (from Cumbria).
It's a tricky picture. That's often the case when some but not all third-place teams progress. This is the current state before tonight’s last round of matches.
Briefly, Morocco is likely safe though they will aim to defeat Zambia and win the group. Zambia likely requires at least a point versus the hosts. Comoros likely must to beat Mali, who should advance if they get a point.
A host of potential results and permutations.
The conclusion to Group B at this Africa Cup of Nations has coverage elsewhere. To avoid spoilers, avoid following that coverage.
