Diane Ladd, Famed For Her Role in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Has Died at Age 89.

This Academy Award-nominated performer Diane Ladd left us 89 years old.

The star, with credits featured Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, died at her home at her Ojai, California home. Her passing was shared through a message from her offspring, award-winning actress Laura Dern, her daughter.

Laura Dern, who performed alongside Diane Ladd in various films such as Wild at Heart, referred to her as “my wonderful hero and my profound gift of a mother”, writing that she was present as she died.

“She was the most wonderful daughter, mother, grandmother, star, artist as well as caring individual that felt like a dream come true,” she wrote. “We were blessed to have her. She is flying with her angels now.”

Beginnings and Rise to Fame

The start of her career included small roles in TV shows such as Perry Mason whereas that decade saw her starring next to the legendary Jack Nicholson in Chinatown.

That very year, the year 1974, she performed alongside Ellen Burstyn in Scorsese’s praised comedy drama Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, a classic. The performance brought Ladd her initial Oscar nod as best supporting actress.

Subsequent Years

Throughout the 1980s, she starred in the dramatic film Black Widow, a suspense story plus comedy sequel National Lampoon’s holiday comedy and appeared on Alice, a sitcom derived from her earlier movie.

In the subsequent decade, she received a further best supporting actress nomination for her part in Lynch’s the movie Wild at Heart in which she portrayed the mother of her biological child the character played by Dern. The following year she obtained another nomination for her acting in Rambling Rose, another movie that also featured Dern.

The nineties featured performances in humorous films Cemetery Club, a film bringing her back with her co-star Burstyn, Primary Colors, a political story, a comedy about politics, featuring John Travolta and Payne’s the movie Citizen Ruth where she acted as the mother of Dern again. That period also brought her nominations for Emmy Awards for performances in Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman, the show Grace Under Fire and Touched by an Angel, a drama.

Partnerships with Her Daughter

She kept appearing with her daughter in dramatic comedies Daddy and Them, a movie, David Lynch’s Inland Empire and the series by Mike White comedy-drama series Enlightened, a TV series. She also appeared next to Sandra Bullock, a star in 28 Days, Anthony Hopkins in that movie plus Jennifer Lawrence in Joy.

Her more recent television parts featured the series Ray Donovan and Young Sheldon, a comedy.

Filmmaking Ventures

She additionally penned and helmed the humorous movie the movie Mrs Munck that included her and former husband Bruce Dern. “Bruce is an excellent performer,” she said. “It was a privilege to guide him on a project.
