Fast bowler Atkinson Compounds England's Injury Problems.

'Major setback' for the touring side as Atkinson is forced off with a hamstring injury.

The English seamer increased England's injury problems after leaving the field during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test versus the Australians.

The right-arm seamer felt a problem in his hamstring post-delivery of the fourth over on Saturday.

The touring camp stated Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and required time off the field for further assessment "over the next few hours".

The final Test of the tour beginning on 4 January starts at the end of the week.

The visitors have already lost key quicks Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer because of a side injury on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was called up to provide backup.

His form was underwhelming in the opening two Tests, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was left out of the third Test, then recalled for the Melbourne Test as Archer's replacement.

Surrey's Atkinson improved at the MCG, bagging two scalps during the host's first knock, then making 28 while batting being one of only three teammates to get into double digits.

Post a single over late on the first day, he came back for the second day's play and dismissed the nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

Unfortunately, at the end of his spell, he bowled a change of pace to the batsman and suddenly grabbed at his leg.

Gus Atkinson was recalled for the fourth Ashes Test after being left out the Adelaide game.
