A senior Russian military figure has been killed following an blast in Moscow, according to reports from authorities.

The event happened on Monday morning when an bomb placed beneath a vehicle detonated, resulting in the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.

Sarvarov was the head of the armed forces' operational training department.

Authorities indicated that one theory under investigation involves the alleged involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. To date, Ukraine has remained silent.

Location of the Blast

Personnel have been dispatched to the site, which is reportedly in a south district of the capital.

Accounts suggest the detonation happened in a car park adjacent to a residential building.

Pattern of Incidents

Since the onset of the large-scale conflict in Ukraine, a number of Russian military commanders have been subjected to assaults within Moscow.

This latest event follows other notable incidents, such as:

  • General Yaroslav Moskalik was died in a vehicle explosion in Moscow earlier this year.
  • General Igor Kirillov perished in late 2024 when a device concealed on a scooter was set off from a distance.

While a source from Ukraine previously linked Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such claims are not formally acknowledged as a matter of official stance.

The war has increasingly seen covert operations reaching into the heart of the Russian capital.

The examination into General Sarvarov's death remains underway.
