The Latest Casual Game Mode Ignites Heated Debates Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but includes several notable adjustments:

  • Each team has just eight real players, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by real players grant full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it gives more options for players looking for alternative methods to enjoy the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 fans are mad.

Player Reactions: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and another details everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Player Input

Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of options currently available. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the player base compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?

Should the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
