It has been confirmed that beloved stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.
The actors are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. It is believed their appearance will probably be featured in a flash-forward sequence, given that the main film series concluded with their characters married and with children.
This represents the sixth film in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.
Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a recent book by author Suzanne Collins. It serves as the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Returning to the director's chair is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed nearly all the previous films in the series.
The film's narrative are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.
