Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
