Toronto Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Matchup Versus Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer contributed to the Astros securing the championship in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their maiden championship series following 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the American League Championship Series.

Trailing 3-1, Springer smashed a three-run homer in the seventh frame, leading the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a four games to three victory in the series. Next up are the Dodgers, holders of the reigning title, in the upcoming World Series.

"I'm thrilled for our team, the city, our country," Springer stated, a key player of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "This is such an amazing experience."

The veteran has now connected for 23 October home runs, placing him third on the list after Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not anyone else in the world that I want up in that moment besides Springer with his playoff prowess," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the one club never to appear in a Fall Classic.

Wilson commented "certainly that it's painful" after his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but commended their performance throughout the year.

"It's a special team. It's a shame that we ended up on the losing end of this one," he remarked.

Toronto's team claimed the championship on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and will host the Los Angeles in the opener on Friday.
